Virgil Fox Memorial Recital

Virgil Fox Memorial Recital: The Friends of the Wanamaker Organ throw open the doors of the Lord & Taylor Grand Court for a rare, ticketed nighttime concert showcasing Peter Richard Conte on the Wanamaker Organ, on Sunday October 7 at 8pm. The Columbus Day Weekend gala, sponsored by the Friends and The Virgil Fox Society, benefits their nonprofit programs. The Wanamaker Organ, the world's largest playing pipe organ, consists of 28,428 pipes in 461 ranks controlled by a six-keyboard console, and it occupies an entire wall of the department store's central atrium.

"This nighttime extravaganza gives concertgoers the rare chance of experiencing both the many subtleties and the full grandeur of this heroic instrument," said Friends President Ray Biswanger. He adds: "The demands of business almost never allow this great organ to be heard in its full majesty. Fasten your safety belts - it's going to be a night to remember!" Lord & Taylor is located in the John Wanamaker Building at 13th and Market Streets. Thanks to their generosity the famous instrument has recently been undergoing a thorough restoration, with many newly restored features heard for the first time at this sonic spectacular. A special wine and hors-d'oeuvre reception in the environs of the Crystal Tea Room will be held for those holding tickets $50 and above.

Tickets are $100 (special champagne section), $75, $50, $35 and $20 available from Telecharge at 800.432.7250 or http://www.telecharge.com. Tickets $50 and above include admission to the gala wine and hors d’oeuvre reception in the environs of the Crystal Tea Room. $35 & $20 seating may have restricted visibility.
